Birmingham’s ‘worst’ postcodes for attacks have been revealed

Exclusive new data can reveal Birmingham’s worst postcodes for attacks this year. The latest figures from West Midlands Ambulance Service show the areas with the highest number of assault alerts between January and May 2024.

Paramedics were called 382 times to help victims of attacks in the city over the five-month period, an average of 15 a week if spread over the 24 weeks. According to a Freedom of Information request to the service, 13 of the 382 attacks were Category 1 alerts, meaning victims were left with life-threatening injuries.




In another 262 attacks, the victims suffered serious injuries, falling into category 2 calls for service. The figures recorded 106 Category 3 assault reports for less serious injuries, although still requiring an urgent response. One was classified as a healthcare professional (HCP) call, where clinicians called the service on behalf of the assault victim.

Over the five months, the B21 area covering Handsworth saw the most attacks, according to the data. A total of 21 victims were attacked, with one suffering life-threatening injuries, 15 seriously injured and another five injured. Areas B33, B11 and B23 all recorded 19 calls in the same time period, while B31 reported 18.
