One person dies on the train line between Bradford and Sowerby Bridge, police confirm

POLICE have today confirmed that one person has died on the railway tracks.

Several train services are canceled at lunchtime as emergency services deal with a situation on lines between Bradford Interchange and Sowerby Bridge Railway Station.

A British Transport Police spokesman said officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks near Copley in Halifax just after 11.30am.

“Officers and paramedics attended and unfortunately one person has been pronounced dead,” the spokesman added.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it had sent resources to the scene.

Northern Rail said just before midday that all lines between Bradford Interchange and Sowerby Bridge Railway Station were blocked.

A spokesman for the train operator said: “Train services running through these stations will be canceled or delayed.”

The following train services cannot run between Bradford Interchange and Sowerby Bridge Railway Station in both directions:

  • Leeds – Manchester Victoria/Wigan Wallgate via Brighouse

  • Leeds – Manchester Victoria/Chester via Bradford Interchange

  • York – Blackpool North

  • Halifax – Hull

  • Bradford Interchange – Huddersfield

The 9.49am train from Wigan Wallgate to Leeds is delayed at Sowerby Bridge, while the 10.23am service from York to Blackpool has ended at Halifax, according to Northern Rail.

A spokesman for the train operator said: “Ticket acceptance is valid on the Transpennine Express between York and Manchester.
