Woman ‘shocked, embarrassed and violated’ by Vinted packaging

A woman was left “shocked” after her “new” earrings from Vinted arrived in tampon packaging. Daisi Abdulla, 41, ordered the £5.89 multicolored earrings from a private seller on the online market and thought little of it.

But when they turned up at her door, Daisi was greeted by a chuckling postman who handed her the earrings in a vintage box. After the “awkward” interaction with the postman, Daisi posted a TikTok about her recent delivery – which has since racked up more than 1 million views.

While she regularly uses Vinted to buy and sell vintage items, Daisi thinks the vintage packaging was “a bit much” because she didn’t know where it was. Daisi, a financial worker, from London, said: “When the postman handed it over, he was just laughing.

“I was really shocked and embarrassed and had no idea how this could happen. I felt somehow violated. It felt strange to be sent this.

“When I made the video I was still touching it and then I was touching my face and I didn’t know where this bag had been. Especially if you’re changing tampons, going in the bag, taking it out – it’s not the most hygienic.”

Daisi’s video has divided opinion – with many saying the packaging is no problem. One user said: “As long as they got there safely I don’t see the problem!”

Another said: “It’s clean, I can’t find the problem, I would agree with it – the sustainability.” A third commented: “I send Vinted packs in nappy packs once I’ve used up all the nappies, I don’t see a problem.”

But others agreed with Daisi’s stance, with one comment saying: “I thought this was in the postbag…they RAW it like that in the post.” A second added: “I’ve never bothered what my stuff goes in but this takes the cake.”

Daisi added: “Some people say it’s OK from a recycling point of view and that’s what Vinted is about. I love buying and selling my stuff, but with this packaging it’s a little out of hand.

“I’ve heard of pizza boxes and diapers. The messages are pretty mixed to be honest – some people think it’s great.

“It seemed a bit much to me. As women, we’re kind of embarrassed about it. I wouldn’t go flaunting my sanitary pads around the office.”

Daisi chose not to mention the packaging in her review due to “embarrassment”.

She said: “I was a bit reluctant to even post the video and it’s a bit embarrassing.”
