“I’m giving up my £7.5m Cornish house for a better life in London”

A couple have decided to pack up their life in Cornwall for the Big Smoke after 63 years in our coastal county. Liz and Charlie Berman, who live near Posh Rock, shared their reasons behind the decision to uproot from a place so many want to live.

Liz, who has lived in Cornwall all her life, shares a multi-million pound home with her husband overlooking the River Camel from a sprawling infinity pool. And while many people their age do the opposite and retire to Cornwall for retirement, this pair’s days here are coming to an end.

Speaking to the Telegraph, they explained how they believe their quality of life will improve when they retire to London and will also be able to spend more time with family members who live in or near the capital. But of course, with London prices, it’s an option not available to everyone.

“Where we are is very nice, but it’s at the end of a farm track,” Ms Berman told the paper, talking about some of the downsides of life in Cornwall. “There is very little public transport. Medical care is scattered. My son recently had a foot infection and the ‘local’ hospital in Truro was an hour and 15 minute drive away.”

She added that they are keen to experience some of the things you can’t do where they live, such as using taxi apps like Uber and food delivery apps like Deliveroo. However, it will lack “line and space”.
