Clinical care back to normal after water main burst: CHEO

OTTAWA — The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario says a code gray issued Tuesday due to a water break near its facility has ended.

The hospital says in a press release that an incident occurred during construction near the main doors of the building at 12:30 p.m.

The outage resulted in water interruptions for clinical care, cooling, potable water and toilets for much of the afternoon and evening.

Out of an abundance of caution, CHEO said it canceled elective surgeries and some clinic visits were canceled for the rest of the day.

Around 10:15 p.m. local time, the hospital said clinical care had returned to normal levels and the code gray had been discontinued.

The problems came as eastern Ontario is dealing with a major heat wave.

Daytime temperatures in Ottawa reached 34 degrees Celsius on Tuesday afternoon and are expected to remain in the mid-30s for the next few days.
