Amazon workers in Coventry will start voting in the union recognition vote

Amazon workers at the Coventry fulfillment center are due to cast their ballots in a central union recognition ballot on Wednesday.

GMB union members are embarking on a month-long voting process overseen by the Central Arbitration Committee, a Government body.




If GMB’s efforts prove successful, it would mark the first time Amazon has recognized a union in the UK, forcing the tech giant to engage in negotiations over working terms, pay and conditions for employees at the site. of Coventry.

GMB has been locked in a wide-ranging dispute with Amazon, culminating in more than 30 days of industrial action.

Amanda Gearing, a senior GMB organizer, described the event as a “historic moment”, saying: “Amazon is one of the most hostile and anti-union employers in the world. They are a multi-billion pound global company that invests huge energy in resisting efforts. of working class people in Coventry to fight for a better life’.

She further highlighted the determination of the local workforce: “Amazon workers in Coventry have rejected Amazon’s attempts to bust their union.”
