Last chance to have your say on the controversial housing plan

The last chance for residents to have their say on a controversial housing plan in Leicestershire is today (Wednesday). If the proposals go ahead, the development, Hayes Gardens, would see 800 homes built on land between Narborough and Enderby, which currently operates as a golf course.

Three consultation events have already taken place on behalf of landowners Santander and Blaby District Council, with the council describing the events as “largely constructive”, with 400 comments received so far.

Alongside the houses, the plans include public open space, play areas, community facilities and parks. Improvements to local roads are also on the cards, with the council saying the changes could improve connectivity in the area and ease existing congestion.

If the proposal is included in the area’s local plan, and that plan is then approved by the Government’s Planning Inspectorate, a planning application for the scheme would need to be submitted and approved by the council before any work can begin. The local plan is expected to be approved by the Inspectorate in late 2025 and then adopted by the council in March 2026.

The online information event for people to share their views on the plans takes place today, Wednesday 19 June, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. To register for the online briefing or complete an online survey about the scheme, visit the Hayes Garden website.
