Southampton and Fulham join race to sign Sheffield United target

According to a claim in Turkish media, Southampton and Fulham have joined the race to sign Besiktas attacking midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

There have been recent reports that the former Liverpool player wants to return to England, leading to claims that Sheffield United are looking to sign him.

Sabah today report the latest developments on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at Besiktas and say Southampton, Fulham and Sheffield United are all interested in the 30-year-old.

As previously reported in the Turkish media and mentioned again by Sabah, Besiktas are looking to offload the midfielder this summer as they look to get him off the payroll. He arrived on a free transfer last summer after his Liverpool contract expired, but failed to make a real impact in Istanbul.

The competition may come as a blow to Sheffield United in their pursuit of Oxlade-Chamberlain, with both Southampton and Fulham able to offer him an immediate return to the Premier League. Recent reports suggested the Blades were front-runners to sign him.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made 30 appearances for the Super Lig side last season, scoring 4 goals. He is contracted to the club until June 2026.
