Wigan fear Huddersfield’s ‘almost unplayable’ Jake Connor ahead of Giant charge

JAI Field knows exactly what to expect from friend and rival Adam Clune – the same cannot be said for Wigan boss Matt Peet when it comes to Jake Connor.

The Warriors star defender goes head-to-head with his Huddersfield great mate, who he meets regularly where they both live in Manchester.

And talk of today’s meeting has been firmly banned, although he is happy to see him playing regularly.

Field, who also played youth rugby league with the Giants’ Jack Murchie, said: “Adam is one of my good friends – I grew up with his twin brother so it’s fun to have him here in Manchester .

“I probably see him once a week – but rugby is off limits when we play against each other. We won’t give anything away about the game.

“I never played against him, but I did in the second round. Hopefully this time it won’t be as awkward.

“Adam had a few injuries in his youth career and made his NRL debut late. He came for an opportunity and he’s grabbing it with both hands – but I don’t wish him well today.”

Huddersfield as a team could be placed in the unpredictable category, although Wigan boss Matt Peet refuses.

However, their defender Connor is definitely in that category as he said: “I’m preparing for the best from Jake – he showed at Catalans a few weeks ago that if he has his best day against you, he can be almost unplayable.

“He’s a real X-factor player, an outstanding talent – he’s always been, but if a player like Jake or a team like Huddersfield unlock you, it should be with a really special piece.
