Former Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri breaks two sensational records with stunning strike at Euro 2024

Switzerland veteran Xherdan Shaqiri continued his amazing record at international tournaments with a sublime goal against Scotland, scoring two firsts in the process.

A poor back pass from Scot Anthony Ralston played Shaqiri in and the Swiss midfielder lifted the ball over goalkeeper Angus Gunn with a curling shot. He equalized after Scott McTominay had put Scotland ahead, but it was also a significant individual moment for the former Liverpool player.

Shaqiri has now scored in his last six international tournaments, making him the only player to score in all of the last three European Championships and the last three World Cups. Shaqiri’s streak in international tournaments started back at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil when he played for Bayern Munich at club level.

The Swiss midfielder also became the first player to score in the UEFA European Championship while playing for a North or South American club team. The latter statistic will make Major League Soccer proud, but the Chicago Fire are looking to offload the midfielder.

Shaqiri played for seven clubs during his professional career, one of which began at FC Basel in his native Switzerland. His big break came with Bayern before a brief move to Inter Milan, before Stoke City offered Shaqiri a lifeline in the Premier League.

After three years at Stoke, the club were relegated from the Premier League, but Liverpool swooped in to sign the midfielder for a cut fee. Shaqiri won the Premier League and Champions League at Liverpool and was loved by former head coach Jurgen Klopp, but left to pursue regular first-team football.

A $6.5 million deal saw Shaqiri move to Lyon in France, but he played just 11 games in six months. Chicago then offered Shaqiri to become their designated player and fill the role he wanted, but the relationship has since become stale.
