Who will be my MP in… Southgate and Wood Green?

Millions of voters in London will go to the polls on July 4 to elect a new government. The Standard looks at the key battleground and other places in the capital and has published an interactive map.

Here we turn on the spotlight:

SOUTH GATE AND GREEN WOOD

Candidates for the main parties (in alphabetical order):

Bambos Charalambous – LabourLauren Fulbright – Liberal Democrats

Charith Gunawardena – Green

Lucy O’Sullivan – Reform Britain

Eric Sukumaran – Conservatives

Summary: Covering several stations at the eastern end of the Piccadilly line, Southgate and Wood Green is new for this election.

It occupied much of the old Enfield Southgate with four other venues including Hornsey & Wood Green and Tottenham.

Bambos Charalambous has been Labor MP for Enfield Southgate since 2017, but the party whip was only suspended in April after a 10-month internal investigation into his conduct cleared him to run in the new constituency.

Sections: Arnos Grove; Bounds Green; Bowes; Roosters; New Southgate; Noel Park; Oak wood; Palmers Green; South Gate; White Hart Lane; Woodside.

Impact of boundary changes: Although brand new, Southgate and Wood Green already looked safe in the works based on legacy areas. Only two of its wards – leafy Cockfosters and Oakwood – voted Conservative in 2019.

YouGov MRP Poll Prediction: Work withholds.

Standard Evening View: The Piccadilly line is dark blue, but Southgate and Wood Green are red.
