Coventry Police arrest suspect after officer was hit by car

COVENTRY, RI (WLNE) – The Coventry Police Department says a suspect has been arrested after a car fleeing a party hit an officer on June 18th.

Ryland Roy, 19, of Thompson, Conn., was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.

The department said officers responded to the Coventry Bike Track in the area of ​​Lewis Farm Road around 9 p.m. to disrupt a party.

A car then fled the scene, striking an officer on the road, and headed in the direction of Connecticut.

Police said Roy was arrested as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to Rhode Island.
