Little girl killed by family dog ​​at home in Coventry

A baby was mauled to death by his family’s dog while at home.

The seven-month-old girl was taken to hospital after the incident in Shorncliffe Road, Coventry.

West Midlands Police said tragically she could not be saved and was pronounced dead from serious head injuries on Sunday afternoon.

The dog, not classified as a dangerous breed, was removed from the home and humanely destroyed.

A police spokesman added: “A child has tragically died after being bitten by a pet dog at a home in Coventry.

“We were called to a property on Shorncliffe Road shortly after 3pm on Sunday.

“Together with our colleagues from the ambulance, we arrived in a few minutes.

“A seven-month-old girl suffered serious head injuries after being bitten by the family dog ​​inside the house.

“She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital for further treatment. Tragically, she died a short time later.

“Our thoughts remain with her family at this devastating time.

“We are in the early stages of our investigation and our inquiries are ongoing.”
