‘Forgotten’ Huddersfield village ‘used as a dumping ground by fly tippers’

Villagers in Huddersfield have urged people to use reputable waste disposal companies to help reduce cases of fly-tipping.

People living in Milnsbridge have long complained about piles of household waste being dumped on their streets. The village has a lot to offer with lovely walks, canalside and historic buildings, but the problem of tipping flies seems to be ever present. Locals say they are fed up with the anti-social garbage bugs.

On Monday, there were three cases of littering in Bankhouse Road, Milnsbridge, and George Street had been used to dump waste for days before.

The issue is being highlighted by Colne Valley villagers and on social media, with Twitter/X account ‘Milnsbridge’ highlighting the concerns this week. The account tweeted photos of the discarded waste and said: “Love where you live. We keep trying… until people think this is okay!

“Dropped in the last week, three drops. We’re better than this @KirkleesCouncil – always asking for help! We need your help, please put cameras… we’re fed up.”

They called Milnsbridge “the forgotten village of the Colne Valley and it needs to change”.

The unnamed resident said Yorkshire Live that “residents are fed up with Milnsbridge being used as rubbish”.

They urged householders to use official waste removal companies and praised Kirklees Council for the authority’s “very quick” response to their complaint about litter being dumped this week.
