Bradford man hospitalized after car crash

BRADFORD, Vt. (WCAX) – A Bradford man is in the hospital tonight after a fiery crash on Route 5.

Vermont State Police say they received reports that a car crashed into a telephone pole and caught fire near Charles Field Road in Bradford.

Troopers responded and, with the assistance of the Bradford Fire Department and Upper Valley Ambulance, extricated the driver, 32-year-old Jackson Metayer, from the vehicle. He was immediately taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Police say Metayer was northbound on Route 5 when he swerved, crossed the center line and went off the road hitting a fire hydrant and a telephone pole.

They also say another driver got out and tried to help Metayer using a fire extinguisher before first responders got there.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
