Leeds drug addict harassed elderly sisters and aunt as he demanded money and things to sell

An addict who assaulted his own sister and harassed his family for money to buy drugs has been jailed.

Dawid Kapuscinski’s behavior became more “erratic” and “aggressive” in the months leading up to two separate incidents last December, his family said.

The 35-year-old had dealt with a substance and alcohol problem, Leeds Crown Court heard on Thursday, before assaulting his sister.

Prosecutor Jeremy Barton said that on December 4 last year Kapuscinski, of Great George Street in Leeds, turned up at his sister’s house demanding money. He said: “He went to her house a number of times starting at around 9am looking for money or things to sell – she assumes for drink or drugs. When he refused to let him or give him anything, he left and came back an hour later and this happened several times that day.

“On the first visit he had blood on his hands and said it was from fighting. When he was refused money by her, he became aggressive and shouted abuse. She said it got worse and around 4pm decided she had had enough and called the police, while waiting for them, went out to get him to back off.

The court heard the woman tried to get her brother out of her garden and he started picking up objects and throwing them at her. He then hit her in the head as she tried to “climb” the stairs, away from him. Kapuscinski was said to have been arrested and interviewed before being released on bail. Despite this, on Christmas Eve he went to the house of his 70-year-old aunt, who said she had been “tortured” by him in her own home.

Mr Barton said: “She described his increasing behavior over the past two months. At 2pm she heard loud banging on her window and it was him. He was using a crutch and asking to be let in and asking for money.”
