Live: Chaos on M4 traffic after vehicle bursts into flames

All traffic on the M4 is at a standstill this afternoon (Thursday June 20) due to a vehicle fire. Westbound traffic at Intersection 15 was backed up due to smoke pouring into the roadway.

Road and traffic monitoring website Inrix first reported the fire at 1.32pm. It said: “Traffic backed up and two lanes closed due to vehicle fire on M4 westbound from J15 A419 Marlborough Road (Swindon East) to J16 A3182 Hay Lane (Swindon West).




“Balls one and two (of three) are closed, the camera shows traffic stopped around 1.35pm to 1.50pm.”

Smoke “blows onto the roadway”

M4 – WILTSHIRE – WEST

All traffic temporarily stopped and traffic stationary due to vehicle fire on M4 westbound from J15 A419 Marlborough Road (Swindon East) to J16 A3182 Hay Lane (Swindon West).

The camera shows black smoke billowing on the roadway and traffic was stopped around 1:35 p.m.

Traffic stopped

All three lanes of traffic on the M4 are closed.
