LETTER: Graduations an inspiring celebration of success

“I had forgotten how inspiring graduation ceremonies can be,” says the grandfather proudly

Last Friday, my wife and I attended my grandson’s graduation. Tis the season of graduation. I had forgotten how inspiring graduation ceremonies can be. When I was a member of Parliament, I went to anyone I could.

Graduation is a celebration of success. There are three different groups at a graduation – first, the graduates themselves, followed by parents, relatives and friends, then faculty and staff. Each group celebrates success in a different way.

Graduates celebrate their own success and share in the success of the friends they made during their studies. The ceremony is kind of bittersweet because they will be moving on and leaving their friends behind.

Their parents, relatives and friends participated in the graduates’ journey through learning. Parents encouraged and funded the success of graduates. They see the fruits of this support. Relatives played their part, as did friends.

Faculty and staff see the annual fruits of their labor. They are as satisfied as the other groups.

So, if you get the chance, go to a graduation ceremony. You will leave inspired.
