Sheffield Wednesday said they could actually benefit from Danny Rohl’s work at Euro 2024

Danny Rohl ended the season on a high, confirming Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship status for next season.

The Owls head coach has continued their success with a new contract, before it was confirmed he will be heading home to Germany to work on the Euro 2024 tournament.

Rohl linked up with ITV this week when he made his debut ahead of the Belgium v Slovakia clash in Frankfurt.

After covering Croatia v Albania two days later, the German was praised for his expert work on social media, with many Sheffield Wednesday fans delighted when their club even got a live mention.

The Owls will be keen to keep his name quiet with the potential issue of other clubs taking an interest in his in-depth tactical knowledge of the game.

Danny Rohl’s expert work ‘can’t hurt’ Sheffield Wednesday

However, David Prutton has now claimed that the Championship club could actually benefit from his presence at the tournament.

Speaking to The Star, the former midfielder said: “It can’t hurt.

“Management and research structures these days are so vast and spread all over the world, but I don’t think it hurts to be in those circles. For a manager to see players with their own eyes is a good thing, but the other thing is that meeting a manager, for a player, can make trades work. I find him a likeable figure who will stop to chat, he seems like someone who can build a relationship with someone.

“There will be an element of Wednesday fans who think he should spend his time doing something better, but what is he going to do? Do they spend all their time locked in his office planning every training session between now and the end of next season? He will do it anyway. This isn’t a guy who writes his formations on the back of a deck of wood, he’s clearly a deep thinker of the game.”

His three-year deal means he won’t be going anywhere this summer

Sheffield Wednesday fans would be right in their concern if Rohl hadn’t already signed a new contract, but it seems his place on ITV this summer is purely down to his love of football and his ability to speak so deeply about it.

The 35-year-old has really impressed this week, but rather than hinder the Owls, he is certainly looking at these games with an eye on potential transfers.

Rohl is clearly a very approachable and likeable man, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he gets to host a few chats with various players and agents before he returns to Sheffield.

The club are clearly taking care of their transfer business without him in town, so they don’t feel there’s anything to worry about for the supporters.
