The celebratory game marks the long history of Stanningley Park Bowling Club

Of Alyssa Randell

Stanningley Park Bowling Club will commemorate its long history and heritage with an exhibition game open to the public on the evening of Friday 28th June.

A team of current Stanningley Park players will face a team of former players who were Stanningley juniors in the 80s and 90s but have since moved on to other clubs.

It will be an opportunity to share stories from the past as well as celebrate current success.

The club has been popular for over 100 years and has been a key feature of Stanningley Park as well as being successful in the Leeds and Bradford leagues during that time.

In the last two years the club has had an incredible revival after the effects of the lockdowns significantly reduced membership. They took home six trophies last season and hope to retain some of them in 2024! The membership continued to strengthen and the club now plays in eight leagues.

Gates will open around 6pm with the actual 16-man exhibition game getting ‘rolled’ around 6.30pm.

The community is invited to come support and experience a fun and competitive evening of green bowling, even if you are not a player. There will be food and refreshments available for a small charge, cash only.

The club will also be displaying some old team photos and record cards for those interested and are asking that if anyone has photos of the bowling club from any time in its history they can email them to stanningleybowlsclub@gmail .com or bring a copy to add to your collection.
