Who will be my MP in Lewisham East?

Millions of voters in London will go to the polls on July 4 to elect a new government.

The Standard looks at the key battleground and other places in the capital and has published an interactive map. Here we turn on the spotlight:

LEWISHAM EAST

Candidates for the main parties (in alphabetical order):

Louise Brice – Tories

Janet Daby – Work

Ruth Handyside – Reformation

Michael Herron – Green Party

Callum James Littlemore – Liberal Democrat

summary:

Lewisham East is among the safest of Labor seats and has been since 1997. Janet Daby has been MP there since 2018, when she won a by-election triggered by the resignation of Heidi Alexander, who left to work for London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Ms Alexander resigned after describing then Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet as “dysfunctional”. In 2019, Ms. Daby’s vote share declined. But she still won almost 60% of the vote and a majority of more than 17,000.

It is ranked very high for its share of people from ethnic minority backgrounds compared to other areas and very low for its share of home owners.
