The Sheffield Wednesday star is now being tipped to join the League One club on a free transfer

A Sheffield Wednesday player looks set to join a League One club this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday look set to have a significantly different first team squad at the start of next season compared to what they had at the start of it. last one season.

The Owls are undergoing some pretty drastic changes on the pitch this summer after manager Danny Rohl guided the club to 20th place in the Championship last season.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri formalized a new three-year contract for Rohl, and since then, Sheffield Wednesday have been hard at work in the transfer market.

Ben Hamer and Max Lowe arrived as Rohl’s first two permanent signings at Hillsborough. Elsewhere, the Owls are thought to be in talks with Ian Poveda.

While many look set to arrive in S6 this summer, many more could also leave with contracts officially expiring on June 30.

One of those without a contract is Cameron Dawson; the Sheffield-born goalkeeper was offered a new contract but Hamer’s arrival looked as if it meant Dawson would move on.

Dawson, 28, has been linked with Bristol Rovers in League One.

Cameron Dawson to Bristol Rovers rumors are true

Dawson lost his place in the Sheffield Wednesday starting XI last season, with Brighton loanee James Beadle replacing the old Wednesday player.

Rohl is keen for Beadle to return this summer, and now Dawson seems interested in leaving as a free agent.

An emerging report from The Star says that recent rumors of Dawson being in talks with League One side Bristol Rovers are “correct”.

The star also says a deal is “likely” to happen with Bristol Rovers for Dawson, with Dawson set to reunite with former Owls team-mate Jack Hunt at the Memorial Stadium.

Danny Rohl will be desperate for a Sheffield Wednesday transfer deal

With Hamer arrived and Dawson looking ready to go, that leaves only the No. 1 spot up for grabs.

And Rohl will surely be desperate for Beadle to return and have a full season in the Championship after his impressive loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday last term.

The 19-year-old has shown huge strides in his development in a very short period of time and Dawson may have given Beadle plenty of pointers and motivation along the way.

For Dawson though, at 28 and on the back of a difficult season, a move somewhere where he will have more first-team exposure could be ideal for him.

He remains an experienced player and has previously shone at League One level, so Bristol Rovers will be getting a very useful goalkeeper if they complete a deal for Dawson.

A busy summer awaits for Sheffield Wednesday. Although it is a summer with many positive potential changes.
