Stay alert indoors as the Met Office shows exactly when the heatwave will end dramatically

Britain’s fleeting heatwave is set to be disrupted by a series of storms that could trigger asthma, according to the Met Office.

The warm, settled weather is forecast to ease later this weekend, with thunderstorms expected in some regions starting Sunday. Despite parts of the UK seeing highs of 27C, the Met Office has issued two yellow storm warnings for Sunday.

They cover much of England and Wales from midday to 9pm and parts of Northern Ireland from 11am to 7pm. This will be followed by heavy showers and thunderstorms throughout the rest of May, with spells of rain expected to last for up to two weeks.

The Met Office has warned that future storms can sometimes trigger asthma and induce asthma attacks, with symptoms such as difficulty breathing, wheezing and coughing exacerbated by the wind. Asthma and Lung UK have advised Britons with asthma how to protect themselves, the Mirror reports.

As the UK finds itself in the middle of a mini heatwave, temperatures are forecast to hit 27C this weekend – hotter than the Mediterranean party island of Ibiza. Those hoping for some sunshine in the coming weeks may now face a downpour, with unpredictable temperatures on the horizon.

The Met Office has forecast heavy showers for many parts of the UK on Sunday, including London, Southampton, Birmingham, Plymouth and Cardiff. However, the rain is set to move north over the next day, affecting Manchester, Newcastle and parts of Scotland.
