The reason Max Lowe snubbed Middlesbrough for Sheffield Wednesday has now been revealed

Sheffield Wednesday recently announced the signing of Max Lowe on a free transfer.

Max Lowe, 27, has left Sheffield United and will join Sheffield Wednesday as a free agent when his contract with the Blades officially expires at the end of this month.

Lowe joins the likes of Marvin Johnson, Gary Madine and many others in playing for both Steel City clubs, and Lowe will look to end several injury-plagued years under Danny Rohl.

In four seasons at Bramall Lane, Lowe made just 53 appearances due to injury, spending time on loan with Nottingham Forest during the 2021/22 promotion campaign.

Despite Lowe’s struggles on the injury front, he appears to have had a number of championship contenders.

The Star says Lowe “spoke to a handful of rival Championship clubs” before putting pen to paper on what is a two-year deal at Hillsborough.

Middlesbrough were one of the teams in the race to sign Lowe this summer. But he opted to join Sheffield Wednesday instead.

Danny Rohl factor in Max Lowe moving to Sheffield Wednesday

Lowe has understandably had an interest in the Championship this summer; despite his injury record, he proved to be very creative on the left, providing nine assists in his 53 Sheffield United outings.

But Lowe, according to The Star, opted to join the Owls after having a chat with Rohl, snubbing Middlesbrough and others in the process.

Lowe is only Rohl’s second permanent signing as Sheffield Wednesday manager, following the arrival of Ben Hamer on a free transfer beforehand.

The Owls are now expected to complete a third permanent signing of the summer transfer window, with Yan Valery set to undergo a medical.

One thing about Sheffield Wednesday cannot be understated

It has been a positive start to the summer transfer window for Sheffield Wednesday. However, Rohl will know there is still a huge amount of work to be done for the team if they are to avoid another relegation in the next round.

Sheffield Wednesday must replace the likes of Will Vaulks and possibly Josh Windass and Di’Shon Bernard, who added quality to the XI last season.

It will certainly be difficult, but Lowe’s case study suggests that Rohl can be a huge draw for Sheffield Wednesday in the transfer market this summer.

Rohl’s presence as a pundit at the Euros can only serve to reinforce this idea, with Rohl having the chance to share his footballing knowledge and likeable presence with everyone.

There are certainly reasons to be optimistic about what this summer has in store for Sheffield Wednesday. But there are still many obstacles to overcome.
