Jamie Carragher sends Khun Top a ‘serious’ message as he delivers the verdict on Steve Cooper Leicester City

Jamie Carragher has expressed his delight at seeing Steve Cooper take over as Leicester City manager, although he says he now needs support from all areas to be successful.

The 44-year-old was announced by City on Thursday, signing a three-year contract weeks after his predecessor Enzo Maresca quit Chelsea. Cooper’s previous position at the helm of Nottingham Forest saw him take the club from the bottom of the Championship to the top flight in a matter of months, before retaining their Premier League status the following season.

After all, he has been out of work since the Foxes’ East Midlands rivals parted ways with him last December – when they were sitting one place above the relegation zone – so looking at the bigger picture, Carragher explained how impressive the welsh must be. get back to this level so quickly.

“Delighted for Steve. It’s not easy when you lose your job in the Premier League to then get another job in the Premier League,” he told Sky Sports. “These are coveted jobs. 20 managers from all over Europe, from all over the world – some of the top managers in world football are looking to come to the Premier League, so he will be delighted to get that opportunity as well.”

Cooper enters the King Power Stadium with a major task at hand – to ensure Premier League survival. Of course, this is the case with any newly promoted team, although Leicester could take this battle on the back foot with the threat of a points deduction from the start.

There are also questions over how much the new manager will be allowed to spend to prepare a squad capable of competing at the highest level. So, as well as building a relationship with the club’s management, Carragher believes his connection with the supporters will be a key determinant next season.
