The best Huddersfield beer gardens for a pint on those sunny days

Huddersfield is surrounded by classic beer gardens where you can enjoy a relaxing pint and in some cases a hearty meal.

There’s nothing like enjoying a cold pint in a beautiful area on a sunny day. But where should you go when the sun is shining brightly? Below are some recommendations for the best beer garden spots in the city center, as well as some more rural options nearby.

1. The hair

259 Huddersfield Rd, Mirfield WF14 9DL.

Mirfield’s Pear Tree is certainly a top contender. Its idyllic riverside bar and beer garden exudes peace and calm, with the only potential problem being securing a space in the rather small car park.

It offers an excellent selection of real ales, delicious food and friendly staff. If you can’t enjoy a few pints here, then maybe a visit to the doctor is in order.

2. Head of Nags

New Hey Rd, Fixby, Elland, HD2 2EA.

This has long been my favorite on a sunny day. It’s a chocolate pub with gorgeous ivy twirling out front, low ceilings, a decent sized beer garden with a fountain, a good selection of real ales, delicious cuisine and a large car park.

Well behaved children are welcome.

3. The Four Sons

129 Clough Lane, Huddersfield, Brighouse, HD6 3QJ

Another favorite of mine, there’s a good sized beer garden where you can watch the traffic on the M62 and feel content to be away from it. Best of all, Draft Bass is always in great shape, and owner Cameron Starkey is always good for a joke and a tease – qualities he inherited from his mother Maggie.

4. The Weavers’ Shop

86 Knowl Road, Golcar, Huddersfield, HD7 4AN

The Weaver’s Shop at Golcar is hard to beat by any standard. Heartbreakingly, it had just reopened after a lot of hard work and investment before being forced to close due to the pandemic.

It boasts the best bar in the area, with a large but intimate outdoor area and excellent beers and food – courtesy of a chef who cooked for the Queen. And the views are to die for.

5. Grove

Spring Grove Street no. 2, Huddersfield, HD1 4BP

A lot of time and effort went into improving this beer garden and it paid off very well. A mecca for beer lovers, the outdoor area has become deservedly popular and you’d be hard pressed not to enjoy a sunny afternoon with friends here.

6. The Millers Bar

47 Briggate, Brighouse, HD6 1EB

Millers Bar in Brighouse has only become one of my favorites in the last year or so. Like all the best things in life, its charm grows deceptive.

It has a fantastic beer garden by the canal with a large amount of terrace and the beer and food are very good. But it also has that relaxed feel, and the staff are some of the friendliest you’ll meet.

7. The head of the river

2 Peel Street, Marsden, Huddersfield, HD7 6BR

The interior of the pub is classically understated and easy on the eyes. There are great beers, especially the Butterly Bitter, a blonde ale, and the staff are friendly.

Best of all, you can sit outside and watch the ducks paddle by. Happiness.

8. The King’s Head

St George’s Square no. 18, Huddersfield, HD1 1JF

They never got around to developing the outdoor area, but that doesn’t matter because when it comes to conviviality, this pub is hard to beat. This is where people like to congregate and whether it’s a quiet pint in the sun or joining in the fun when the city fans gather for the pre-match tipple, this pub has a tried and tested knack for attracting punters.

9. The woolen inn

Ripponden New Bank, Barkisland, Halifax, HX4 0DJ

This is the kind of serious country pub that Britain prides itself on. He spent a lot of money on it and it shows.

Perched on Ripponden Bank, it boasts a fantastic outdoor seating area with superb views for miles around.

10. Millet powder

2 Gilead Road, Huddersfield, HD3 4XH

During my time as a student at Huddersfield New College, my mates and I would often sneak off onto the playing fields and down a steep cliff for a pint at lunchtime. Despite losing its ivy years ago, it has never lost its charm.

Inside, you’ll find some of the most traditional pub features, including low ceilings and a fine selection of hand-pulled beers. It’s hard to beat on a sunny Friday night when work stress melts away in a wave of beer bubbles.

11. The Golden Rooster

2 The Village, Farnley Tyas, Huddersfield HD4 6UD

This cozy country pub in Farnley Tyas serves drinks and gourmet pub food. It is highly recommended as a great stop on a summer walk – your dog is welcome too!

12. House of Sands

Blackmoorfoot Rd, Huddersfield HD4 7AE.

Patrons praise this Crosland Hill pub for its fantastic beer garden, perfect for relaxing in the sun. Dogs are also welcome both outside and in the bar area.

13. The head of the field

219 Quarmby Rd, Huddersfield HD3 4FB

The Fieldhead has a large beer garden. From here you can take in the views of the Colne Valley while enjoying your pint.
