Steve Cooper runs into his first Leicester City transfer problem

Wilfred Ndidi has three contract offers from other clubs – including Premier League rivals Everton – although Leicester City hope to renew his contract at the King Power Stadium.

The Nigerian international has been a City player for seven years now, making 273 appearances for the club while winning the FA Cup, Community Shield and EFL Championship in that time. He last signed a contract extension a year after joining the club, which is set to expire this summer.

When they confirmed their retained list for the upcoming campaign, Leicester announced they would continue their own negotiations with Ndidi, while the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Marc Albrighton and Dennis Praet were let go. That fight is now proving to be a race against time and is made increasingly difficult by outside interest.

At 27, the midfielder is believed to be reaching his peak years and so, according to Santi Aouna, there are currently offers from Everton, Marseille and Lyon for Ndidi to continue his career elsewhere. A move to the former would be a particular blow to the Foxes as Sean Dyche’s side are one the club should be fighting for survival in the upcoming campaign.

The latest report also states AS Monaco’s interest in completing a trio of Ligue 1 suitors, although still without a formal contract offer, as well as Spain’s Sevilla, who are not expected to make an approach at this stage.

While all this continues, the journalist writes that City still retain their desire to keep hold of the man who has been a great servant since signing for £15m from Genk seven years ago. In May, the man in question said: “If a good chance comes I don’t mind trying my luck elsewhere, but for now I’ll remain a Leicester City player.”
