Sheffield Wednesday transfer target completes medical ahead of summer move

Sheffield Wednesday are set to complete a third summer signing after a successful medical.

Danny Rohl wasted no time at the start of this summer’s transfer window, with Max Lowe and Ben Hamer already through the doors at Hillsborough.

Rohl will be looking to build on a brilliant finish to last season, which saw him stay high in the championship after three straight wins at the end of the season.

Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have committed their futures to Sheffield Wednesday for next season, with optimism at an all-time high in the northern Steel City.

Wednesday boss Rohl has undoubtedly been a big factor in current players committing to the club after 20th place.

Rohl had identified a player he had previously worked with in the Premier League and his arrival at S6 is understood to be imminent.

Yan Valery completes Sheffield Wednesday medical

Yan Valery looks set to join Rohl’s squad after he suffered a successful medical, according to The Star, after it was revealed that Valery was to undergo a medical.

The Frenchman will reportedly join for a fee, unlike Wednesday’s previous signings this summer, showing that chairman Dejphon Chansiri is willing to back the German manager to propel the Owls up the league and build on the season’s successes last.

Valery previously had a spell under Rohl when the German was assistant manager to Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton.

Rohl’s appointment to the Premier League squad coincided with Valery’s first-team drop, becoming a regular at both full-back and right-midfield for Southampton.

Squad depth key for Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday

The right side of defense for Wednesday this season will see Valery fight for his place in the starting line-up alongside vice-captain Palmer and Pol Valentin.

In Rohl’s system, it is clear how much he uses his full-backs both in attack and in retreat.

This extra assurance of players at right-back will ensure they have players to bring in for a very physically demanding but crucial role in the team.

Valery also provides an additional attacking threat compared to Palmer, which can be used in situations where Wednesday is up against the cosh.

Many factors contribute to why this is such a smart move for Rohl ahead of the new season, filling his over-performing squad with familiar faces he knows he can get the best out of.
