Leeds United are set to sell Marc Roca outright this month as he closes in on a long-term deal at Real Betis after spending the season on loan there.

Marc Roca showed quality on the ball during Leeds’ relegation season in 22/23, despite his difficulties coping with the physicality of the division, and his midfield expertise was a treat at Real Betis.

So much so that a second transfer deal is in the works for Roca to return to the Sevilla club for 24/25 and beyond.

Marc Roca is heading to Real Betis in a cut-price deal

Frequent reports in Spain this week revealed that the midfielder is closing in on a return to the Estadio Benito Villamarín, but on a permanent basis.

Roca’s contract at Elland Road still has a loan clause this summer after the club lost out in the play-off final, but Betis are keen to bypass any temporary deal, wanting to tie him down this month.

Relevo claimed that while Leeds are demanding a fee closer to the £10m they paid for Roca in 2022, the fee is said to actually be under €5m (€4.23m pounds).

YEP shares information with sources in Leeds regarding PSR’s concerns

Now the Yorkshire Evening Post have shared Elland Road’s stance on Roca’s impending sale, which isn’t likely to do the club many favors in the PSR conversation.

Halfway through his four-year contract, Roca’s book value at Leeds is currently £5m, so a smaller fee is a loss on the books.

However, the YEP states that Leeds will not mark this sale as a loss:

“Leeds sources also say that although the fee is undisclosed, they will not be loss-making when it comes to P&S.

“The upside is, of course, freeing up what is believed to be considerable headroom in Leeds’ wage structure to pursue – and perhaps reward existing players – targets who want to play for the Elland Road club, regardless of their Championship status. “

Roca off the books is a boost even if the money isn’t great

Roca is more than good enough to deserve a bigger fee for the club, but our position in this negotiation was clearly too weak to manage.

It’s good to see it off the books, knowing it won’t be a loss for PSR, also being written off the payroll.

For Leeds, it is also a relief not to drag out their pre-season transfer saga and Leeds have a clean sheet in July and August.
