Drag queen ‘shocked’ after receiving letter in the mail

A drag queen was shocked when she received a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity in the post.

Eddie Wallace, from Huyton, has been told he will go to the “palace” to be recognized for his years of charity work.

The 48-year-old assumed the venue was in Blackpool, where he recently performed in support of The Not Forgotten – a charity which supports serving personnel and veterans who are injured or ill. However, the entertainer would soon learn that this was not the case.

The contemporary drama graduate told the ECHO: “When I was told ‘the palace’ I thought it was in Blackpool. I didn’t realize it was Buckingham Palace. An official invitation came for us and it said that the King requested our company.

“I’m really excited to go now. I think it’s such a wonderful opportunity and it’s nice to be recognized. I’ve done a lot of charity work over the years so it’s a great time to be invited. It is definitely a once in a lifetime type of experience.

“My mum died of cancer many years ago but she would have been really proud of me. She would have loved to go, she was a big fan of the royal family.”

Along with a group of others, Eddie will be attending the garden party on Friday 17th May. Although a dress code and protocol were sent with the invitation, Eddie asked if he could go as his alter ego, CeCe Monsoon.

Eddie started his career as a drag queen after going on vacation and getting more than “dummy.” She was traveling to Gran Canaria, a hot spot for the LGBTQ+ community, to catch up with old friends she hadn’t seen in a while.

At the time, the 48-year-old was known for his vocal skills and keeping the crowd entertained. One of Eddie’s friends mentioned that he had a work-related problem that needed to be resolved promptly. Eddie agreed to help with said problem, not realizing it would cause a change in his career.

The singer told the ECHO: “I was on holiday and a friend of mine who managed a bar didn’t have a drag queen for one of the nights. Within an hour, I was seated, given a full face and ready to go on that stage.

“The rest is just history from there. The second I got to the UK I went on with the character dear and it just went from strength to strength.”

Eddie was on cruises and performing across Europe as CeCe Monsoon when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, shutting down the world and consequently the entertainment industry.

With restrictions in place, Eddie took a break from drag and temporarily closed his heels.

Having traveled up and down the country for the past 30 years, either as a singer or drag artist, Eddie was keen to keep busy and retrain as a carer looking after those with severe brain injuries and dementia .

Fast forward to 2024 and the former University of Central Lancashire student has decided to bring CeCe out of retirement as he returns to his ‘dream’ career.
