Coventry family ‘absolutely devastated’ as baby dies from dog on Father’s Day

Tributes have poured in for a seven-month-old girl who died after being attacked by a family dog on Father’s Day. The child, who was the family’s first born, suffered serious head injuries and despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead following the incident on Sunday afternoon.

The dog was humanely picked up and put down. Neighbors described the loss as ‘absolutely tragic’, with one resident of Shorncliffe Road saying: ‘It’s awful, and on Father’s Day too. They are a lovely couple and it’s such a shame. The baby was their first child and she seemed like a sweet girl. They looked very happy and I can’t imagine anything worse to lose a child in this way.

Another neighbor added: “I didn’t realize anything had happened until I saw it on the news. It’s just awful. This is just a normal, quiet road and never in a million years would you believe that something like that will happen here”.

An elderly resident who lived further down the road vaguely recalled seeing law enforcement and emergency services arrive, expressing: “I saw police cars and ambulances at a house up the road. There must have been three police cars and two ambulances. It’s heartbreaking. Absolutely tragic This should never happen to anyone,” the Mirror reports.

Another neighbor commented: “The ambulances came here first and then they went there, other than that I didn’t see anything. It was a quick response, two ambulances and then someone sent them over there.”

Another woman remarked: “I don’t know anything… all I saw were police cars. They had a dog, it was a big one, that’s all I know. All I saw were police cars. There were a few around 2 p.m., I think they were devastated.
