St Mel’s Musical Society Longford will stage ‘Me and My Girl’ in 2025

Following their major triumphs with the fast-paced productions of ‘Footloose’ and ‘Legally Blonde’ in their comeback from the Covid pandemic, St Mel’s Musical Society is returning to a traditional show with the decision to stage ‘Me and My Girl’ in April 2025. .

With famous songs such as ‘Leaning on a Lamp-post’, ‘The Sun Has Got His Hat On’, ‘The Lambeth Walk’ and the show’s title track ‘Me and My Girl’, the Longford group will be working with the vast group. experienced director Peter Kennedy from Galway for the first time.

Kennedy, originally from Belfast, has just completed another term as one of the AIMS adjudicators and will be joined in the St Mel’s Musical Society production team next season by Longford maestro Fintan Farrelly, who returns to the role of musical director after several years of absence.

The new choreographer is Dylan O’Keeffe, a graduate of Cork School of Music with a degree in musical theatre.

Me and my girl is a musical with the music of Noel Gay and his original book and lyrics Douglas Furber and L Arthur Rose.

The story, set in the late 1930s, is about an unapologetic and unrefined Cockney. a gentleman named Bill Snibson, who learns that he is the 14th heir to the Earl of Hareford. The action takes place in Hampshireand in Mayfair and Lambeth in London.

The award for Best Choreography was won by Maynooth University Musical Society for their production of ‘Cats’.
