This is the full breakdown of the number of people on the register as of April each year in the Avon and Somerset force area. These figures include people who are in a secure medical facility but still live in the force area:

  • 2020: 2378
  • 2021: 2382
  • 2022: 2647
  • 2023: 2494

In a statement, the police force said: “Across the Avon and Somerset area, agencies are working together to deal robustly with registered sex offenders (RSOs) who may pose a risk to the community.

“This process is governed by MAPPA arrangements, which is made up of a number of organisations, including the police and the National Probation Service. The aim of this process is to provide effective risk management plans to monitor offenders and reduce the risk of them re-offending.

“While we do not comment on individual cases, RSOs are managed carefully within the community and the Sexual Offenses Act 2003 provides the framework for RSOs to notify the police of key information, including their address. The vast majority of RSOs comply with their requirements.
