West Midlands drivers given 48-hour ‘avoid’ warning amid motorway change

Motorists in the West Midlands have been warned of a motorway closure in place until Monday 13 May. The closure is in place today and tomorrow, May 11 and 12, on an eastbound section of the M54 in Shropshire.

The eastbound carriageway is closed between Junction 4, Telford and Junction 3, Cosford. The closure is in effect due to roadworks, according to traffic monitoring service Inrix.

There is congestion on the A5, Newport Road at Tong Norton and Priorslee Road heading towards Shifnal as local routes are affected by the closure. Inrix reports that the eastbound closure of the M54 will be in place until the early hours of the month.

The closure will disrupt drivers heading east in the West Midlands from Shropshire and Wales. A message sent by Inrix said: “M54 eastbound closed, delays due to weekend roadworks until the early hours of Monday morning from J4 A464 (Shifnal) to J3 A41 Newport Road (Albrighton).

“Congestion to A5 via Crackleybank as traffic diverts”.
