Chris Davies’ first impressions and the message that will stick with Birmingham City players

Chris Davies is settling in nicely to his new surroundings at Birmingham City’s training ground, two weeks after agreeing to succeed Tony Mowbray in the hot seat.

The 39-year-old takes up his first managerial role after a long and distinguished coaching career that has seen him work for Swansea City, Liverpool, Celtic, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur. He has been joined this week by former Leicester team-mate Ben Petty, who has been appointed as the Blues’ new assistant manager, and Davies is just over a week away from meeting his players.

The new Blues boss hosted Birmingham Live at the Elite Performance and Innovation Center (EPIC) earlier this week to discuss his career to date and plans for the club. Alex Dicken and Brian Dick discussed meeting Davies in the latest Keep Right On podcast, which can be heard Here.

It is already clear that Davies is willing to give everyone a clean slate, even those who didn’t cover themselves in glory last season when the club were relegated from the Championship, and make up their minds in the first two weeks of pre-season. .

Davies explained how he will create sessions that test the quality and character of players to discover who is and is not able to fit into his plans.

Reflecting on our audience with Davies, Alex said: “You’d like to think that all the players coming back for pre-season, those who impressed last season and those who didn’t, will all want to impress. It will be more difficult for some than for others.
