Woman batterers, stalkers and drunk drivers among those sentenced by magistrates this week

It’s the weekend and so time to take a look at the cases that have recently come before magistrates in Cornwall. Everyone who has been charged with a crime, from the most minor to the most serious, initially appears before magistrates.

The most serious cases are then sent to the crown court. If a defendant pleads guilty, they could be sentenced immediately or the matter could be referred for a pre-sentence report. If they deny the charges against them, the case will be adjourned for trial.

Courts are open to anyone, and our reporters participate just like any other member of the public. Since most people have jobs and cannot spend time in court, the media has always acted as the eyes and ears of the public to ensure that justice is seen to be done.

Here’s who was recently sentenced at Bodmin and Truro Magistrates’ Court.

Gary Donc-Renner

Age: 33

Dennison Road, Wadebridge

On 22 September 2023, in Fore Street, Bodmin, assaulted a man by beating him. Between 1 February and 1 March, at the Whitehall Estate in St Kew Highway, you attended a course of conduct which amounted to harassment of a woman who you knew or ought to have known amounted to harassment by publishing material on social media on four occasions related to her.

Between 1 August 2023 and 25 August at Bodmin caused a woman to fear that violence would be used against her by your conduct which you knew or ought to have known would cause her to fear violence on every occasion of about which you have used threatening or abusive words.

Sentenced to 41 weeks in prison. compensation of £250. Restraining order not to enter Whitehall Estate, St Kew Highway or contact your victim.

Age: 34

Trelissick Road, Falmouth

Between 21 January 2023 and 7 February 2023 at Beech Close, Falmouth, engaged in a course of conduct, namely repeatedly visiting and entering the victim’s property without invitation, which amounted to stalking causing a woman serious alarm or distress, which had a substantial negative effect. effect on her normal day-to-day activities when you knew or should have known that your behavior would cause alarm or distress.

Community order. 30 days including building better relationships. Rehabilitation activity for 15 days. 160 hours of unpaid work. Restraining order not to contact your victim or enter Beech Close or Beech Road Falmouth.

Age: 53

Bay View Terrace, Newlyn

Between 30 June 2023 and 14 November 2023 at Penzance, you engaged in conduct that amounted to stalking a woman and which you knew or should have known amounted to harassing her by sending multiple emails, doing multiple calls, leaving voicemails and showing up at her parents’ address multiple times.

On or about 16 May 2024, at Truro, failed without reasonable cause to surrender to custody at Truro Magistrates’ Court, having been released on bail pending criminal proceedings on 29 April 2024 at Camborne Custody Centre.

Community order. Rehabilitation activity – Offender to comply with any instructions of the officer in charge to attend meetings or participate in any activity as required by the officer in charge, up to a maximum of: 20 days. Restraining order not to contact your victim directly or indirectly. And not to enter Heamoor in Penzance.

Jade Jeffery

Age: 35

Park view, Liskeard

On January 13, 2023, at Landrake drove a motor vehicle on the A38 when the proportion of a controlled drug, namely benzoylecgonine (BZE, the breakdown product of cocaine), in your blood, namely not less than 265 microgrammes of the drug per liter of blood, exceeded the specified limit.
