Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl gives his verdict on VAR in the Championship

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has revealed whether or not he would like to see VAR installed in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is currently in Germany covering Euro 2024 as a pundit for ITV.

The Owls boss has garnered widespread praise on social media for his charisma and overall understanding of football on display.

And despite being in Germany, Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday are also receiving transfer offers across the line, with Yan Valery becoming Sheffield Wednesday’s third signing of the summer on Friday.

The summer ahead is shaping up to be a very positive one for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday, who will be hoping for a more comfortable league finish than last season.

The Championship table looks set to be another challenge next season with Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United set to drop from the Premier League.

All three teams will return to a championship that has yet to install VAR, although the debate rages.

Danny Rohl on whether VAR should be installed in the Championship

Rohl was a pundit for the Euro 2024 match between Poland and Austria on Friday, which ended in a 3-1 win for Austria.

The following match between Holland and France sparked debate on social media after Dutchman Xavi Simons had a goal disallowed by VAR.

Asked whether or not he would like to see VAR installed in the Championship, Rohl replied: “We are sticking with the traditional things (in the Championship). No VAR.”

VAR was used in the Championship play-off final between Leeds United and Southampton in May, but there are still concerns about the cost of installing VAR at every club in the Championship.

Will ever install VAR championship

The Championship was the second most attended league in Europe last season, beating the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga and Serie A.

It’s a hugely popular league and one that is constantly growing in quality and stature, so inevitably the debate over whether or not to install VAR will continue.

But many supporters will argue that not the installation of VAR means the championship can maintain its traditional charm.

The Premier League is often inundated with debates surrounding sending-off decisions and VAR, causing constant debate around the system, which still seems to have plenty of flaws.

Many fans will agree with Rohl that the league should stick to its current traditional means and not install VAR any time soon.

At least not until it becomes financially feasible for Championship clubs to do so and the system itself becomes much more streamlined and clear.
