Zimbabwe is waiting for funding to upgrade stadiums, sports minister Kirsty Coventry says – The Zimbabwe Mail

Minister for Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry

HARARE – Zimbabwe Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry has announced that the ministry is awaiting funding to upgrade the country’s stadiums, which currently do not meet FIFA standards. As a result, the national football team is forced to play its matches abroad.

Minister Coventry acknowledged the critical issue of inadequate stadium infrastructure, stressing the urgent need for government investment to improve the country’s sporting facilities.

The inferior conditions of the local stadiums not only prevented the national team from competing on home soil, but also deprived Zimbabwean fans of the chance to support their team in person.

“This situation is pressing and underlines the need for the Government to prioritize funding for stadium upgrades,” Coventry said. “Making sure our teams can play at home is vital to their performance and the morale of our supporters.”

The ministry’s request for funds highlights the wider implications of the current state of sports infrastructure, underscoring the importance of swift government action to address the issue and restore home ground advantage for Zimbabwe’s national team.
