Is Jamal Musiala leaving Bayern? Release clause, transfer news and Liverpool links

Jamal Musiala was one of the best players at Euro 2024 and it is no surprise. The Bayern Munich star is currently the tournament’s top scorer after two games and his displays have caught the eye.

After firing a bullet into the roof of the net in the opener against Scotland, the 21-year-old scored the first of the hosts’ second against Hungary. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have now become possible outside favorites to win the competition.

And although he has been in red-hot form for his country, Musiala’s future at club level remains a difficult one. Liverpool are among several Premier League giants monitoring his progress in Munich, with reports suggesting he is open to a return to England.

The Mirror reported that Arne Slot is keen to sign the 21-year-old this summer to strengthen his midfield and attack. However, it remains to be seen whether a move will be presented.

Set of price tags

In March, it was reported that Bayern would demand around £100m for Musiala. It is not known if the Germany international has a release clause in his contract, but it is understood that Chelsea are entitled to 20% of the transfer fee if he does.

Bayern Munich’s firm stance

Bayern’s Jan-Christian Dreesen confirmed at the start of last season that the club wanted to keep Musiala for as long as possible. Speaking to Bayerischer Rundfunk, he said: “Jamal is already a fantastic footballer.

“He has incredible qualities and so much potential for improvement. We would do well to keep him as long as possible.”

Musiala’s verdict

The Bayern Munich star’s performances over the past 18 months have seen him constantly linked with a move, and in December 2023, he provided a brief update.

“My contract runs until 2026,” he said Abendzeitung. “So everything is very relaxed. I feel very comfortable at FC Bayern at the moment, in the team and under Thomas Tuchel.”

Tuchel has now left Bayern and Musiala admitted that the next appointment would be important for him. Vincent Kompany has since joined the club.

“For me, the coach’s decision was important. I want to play good, attractive football and compete for the league title and the Champions League with a good team. I want to play in an environment where there is a good feeling and the boys are happy on the field because I can also show my qualities”.
