Tottenham and Manchester United officials in Frankfurt as transfer interest mounts in midfielder

Tottenham and Manchester United had representatives in Frankfurt this week as interest in midfielder Morten Hjulmand grows.

So says Record, who say the player’s performances for Denmark are earning him more attention after a “fairy tale” first season at Sporting Club de Portugal.

The midfielder has enjoyed an excellent year so far, winning the title in Portugal before heading to Germany for Euro 2024 with Denmark, where he has been one of their standout players.

His superb strike in the 1-1 draw with England thrust him into the limelight and earned him plenty of attention, especially as most of his suitors seem to come from the Premier League.

The paper explains that, as fate would have it, Tottenham and Newcastle both had “emissaries” in the Frankfurt game, which saw Hjulmand shine.

The two clubs have “followed him for a long time” and identified him as a potential target this summer, and the fact that he was a star man against England would not have gone unnoticed.

Unfortunately for both of them, he turned a blind eye to the growing interest and made it clear that he wants to stay in Portugal for at least another year. Sporting also promised manager Ruben Amorim that the midfielder would not be sold.

It is up to Tottenham and Manchester United to convince both sides to move away from that plan and it remains to be seen if their scouts were convinced enough by his performance against England to now present one to their Portuguese counterparts.
