Steve Cooper starts making phone calls at Leicester City as he sets himself a ‘powerful’ goal.

Steve Cooper has already made contact with some of his Leicester City squad following his arrival as manager and can’t wait to ‘get his hands dirty’.

Leicester decided to appoint the Welshman on a three-year deal this week as they turned to the former Swansea boss to negotiate a return to the Premier League.

The Foxes will face a serious challenge first up, but Cooper is relishing the task ahead and gave his first interview since arriving. And the former Nottingham Forest boss, who was sacked by the Reds last December, plans to field an exciting squad and says everyone is raring to go.

“I have that experience of coming back to the Premier League and obviously this is a Premier League football club in every way, shape and form.

“He lost his status for a season, he was able to come straight back, which is a really impressive achievement, but now it’s about getting us back up to par. And the good thing is that there are so many people here who have seen both levels and it’s a big difference.

“We have to work really hard now to get back to Premier League level and start the season. The boys will be well rested and that’s great after a tough year in the Championship but we have to get the most out of them in pre-season in terms of how we want to play and how we want to build on last season, knowing that it’s a completely different challenge in the Premier League.
