Warning for drivers as the Met Office issues a yellow warning for thunderstorms

A warning has been issued to drivers in the West Midlands after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms. Heavy rain showers are expected tomorrow, Sunday, May 12.

Forecasters said a dry and bright start to the day would turn to heavy showers by the afternoon. This will bring heavy rain and possibly hail.




The worst of the weather will clear up in the evening. Maximum temperatures of 25C.

Taking to X, ex-Twitter, National Highways: West Midlands posted: “The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for Sunday May 12 from midday until 10pm. Thunderstorms and heavy downpours are expected. For tips to help you drive safely in the wet visit the conditions.”

In a forecast for the region, the Met Office said: “A dry weekend to start with blue skies and extended sunshine. Fair cloud may develop throughout the day, but it feels pleasantly warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 24C.

“This evening: It remains dry overnight with extended spells of clear skies across the region. Light wind throughout and feeling warm despite clear skies. Minimum temperature 12C. Sunday: A dry and bright start to the day with heavy showers developing in the afternoon bringing heavy rain and possible hail. Clearing by evening. Stay warm. Maximum temperature 25C.
