Leeds United became the laughingstock of the Championship at the end of this season, missing out on automatic promotion by 90 points, with Ipswich Town finishing on 96.

The Whites are less than a day away from kicking off their hoped-for play-off campaign by taking on Norwich City away on Sunday.

Daniel Farke has a big job to lift the team after missing out on the top two, despite having a number of points that would be more than enough in most seasons.

Ipswich’s Kayden Jackson mocks Leeds United

As the Tractor Boys claimed promotion with a win over Huddersfield Town last weekend, Leeds somehow found themselves back in the limelight.

The Sky News cameras were on the open Ipswich bus around the city center as Luke Woolfenden was interviewed, only to be interrupted by Bradford-born striker Kayden Jackson.

The 30-year-old shouted into the microphone “Leeds are falling apart again” and “Leeds are in the playoffs” as reporter Paul Gilmour then called for that section to be cut from the recording:

Who will win the playoffs?

Kayden Jackson looks like he might not be headed to the PL anyway

The joy for this Ipswich side comes not only from taunting Leeds, ‘in it’ at the moment, but also from the fact that they themselves are getting promoted.

However, for Jackson, his eagerness to mock Leeds’ demise in the automatic promotion race looks short-lived as his prospects of setting foot in the top flight appear dim.

The striker is out of contract in the summer and he posted this on Instagram to suggest he could be saying goodbye to Portman Road:

He was promotion shy and played in the top flight with Ipswich (via EADT):

“This season we trusted each other and the group and knew what we could achieve.

“Yes, it was going to be tough, it was going to be difficult – but we kept our heads down and focused. We knew what we were capable of as a team.

“So look, I wouldn’t put anything out of a Kieran McKenna team – that’s how special he is.

“And I wouldn’t put anything past this group.”

So after all the jeers and liquidations – which clearly did the trick to a frustrated Leeds fan base – they might not even get to enjoy the end result of it all.
