Dan McKellar steps down as head coach of Leicester Tigers after one season at the Premiership club | Rugby Union News

Dan McKellar has stepped down as head coach of Leicester Tigers after just one season with the Gallagher Premiership club.

McKellar was assistant head coach of the Australian national team before joining the Tigers in July 2023 on a “long-term deal”, only for Leicester to finish eighth in a disappointing Premiership campaign.

Leicester won nine and lost nine during the league season, were knocked out in the last 16 of the Leinster Champions Cup and lost to Gloucester in the final of the Premiership Rugby Cup.

In a statement, the club said: “Leicester Tigers can confirm the departure of Dan McKellar from his role as head coach with immediate effect. The decision was mutually agreed following extensive discussions regarding the future direction of the club.

“The club has begun the process of finding a new head coach to lead the men’s program into the 24/25 season. Pre-season training for men’s players not on international duty begins on July 1 at Oval Park.

“We thank Dan for his contribution to Leicester Tigers and wish him, Carla, Amelie and Maya every success in the future.”
