Arne Slot has doubled his asking price to sell Liverpool’s “world-class” player this summer

Liverpool don’t look set to make too many changes to their first team squad this summer.

The Reds are still yet to make a signing as we approach July, with big changes at the club preventing any transfer possibilities.

As Arne Slot settles into his continued new role at Anfield, Liverpool are still likely to make a few additions over the next couple of months.

Rumors are growing that players such as Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams could arrive, for example.

On the other hand, there could also be one or two exits from Liverpool. But according to reports this weekend, the Reds won’t be selling players on the cheap.

Liverpool set the price for Caoimhin Kelleher

There is uncertainty surrounding the Liverpool squad as Slot replaces Jurgen Klopp.

Big players like Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk have attracted interest and their futures remain a topic of discussion.

Other squad players have also been rumored to be on the chopping block. Kostas Tsimikas looks set to leave after dropping to third choice left-back next season.

It remains to be seen exactly what kind of fee Liverpool would seek to sell Tsimikas. But it looks like it should be more than the £12m they paid for the Greek in 2020.

Another who has had a lot of talk about where he will play next season is backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Having admitted he wants to be number one somewhere, Kelleher looks like a prime candidate to be traded in the coming weeks.

However, according to The Mirror, Liverpool will do everything they can to get maximum value from the Irishman if they do indeed sell him.

While it’s claimed the Reds won’t necessarily stand in Kelleher’s way if an offer comes in, it seems they don’t want to lose him. As a result, it is said that any bid would have to reach a staggering £40million before they would consider letting the 25-year-old leave.

What is the fair value of Caoimhin Kelleher?

Kelleher’s situation at Liverpool is a delicate one. While you’d have to say he looks ready to go, the Reds have every right to make sure they don’t get traded.

Goalkeepers are a strangely undervalued commodity in the transfer market. But that seems to be starting to change.

Whoever buys Kelleher this summer will get a first-choice goalkeeper. Having played so well for Liverpool this season, the Ireland international could join a club at a very good level.

Van Dijk described Kelleher as “world class” earlier in the campaign and you don’t get players like that cheap.

That said, Kelleher needs football. He is an asset for Liverpool and they can pick up a new backup goalkeeper on the cheap. So to us, Liverpool’s previously reported £20m price tag sounds like fair value. If it doubled now, we can’t see anyone paying it.
