Murder arrest near Bristol after man found dead

A homicide investigation has been opened following the death of a man in Hambrook, near Bristol.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to a property in Mill Lane by the ambulance service just before 9.55am this morning. A man was found dead at the scene. One person was arrested and is in police custody.

Although the formal identification process has not yet been completed, police believe the deceased is a 90-year-old man and his next of kin have been informed.

Chief Inspector Steph McKenna said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this extremely distressing time. We can confirm that a man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

“We will be carrying out a thorough investigation into what happened and this will be led by our Major Crime Investigation Team. Our inquiries are at an early stage, but at this time it appears this was an isolated incident between two known individuals.

“While there is not believed to be an ongoing risk to the public, the local community can expect an increased police presence over the coming days as investigative work is carried out, along with high visibility reassurance patrols. As always, if you have any concerns please speak to these officers and PCSOs on patrol as they will be happy to talk and try to assist as much as possible.”

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call 101 and quote operator reference number 5224161401.
