Burglar jailed after storming house with sledgehammer and crowbar

A man has been jailed after storming a house in Southport with a sledgehammer and a crowbar.

Reece Owen, 24, was among several men seen entering the house in Fylde Road armed with guns at around 2pm on Friday 5 April.




After damaging a rear window, the gang were seen fleeing the area in a white Mercedes car, which was later recovered on Brookdale Drive in Liverpool with the weapons still inside.

Following an investigation, Owen, of Cawthorne Avenue, Southdene, was arrested and charged with theft. He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, June 21, where he was jailed for 29 months.

Detective Inspector Kevin O’Rourke, from Operation Castle, Merseyside Police’s dedicated burglary unit, said: “Being the victim of a burglary can have a profound effect on victims’ lives and we are determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice before the court. .

“Due to extensive investigative work we were able to locate the car and trace and identify Owen and he is behind bars today.
