Steve Cooper has sent Jamie Vardy a message as Leicester City’s new striker is on the transfer agenda

Leicester City couldn’t ask for a better “impact” striker than Jamie Vardy, says his former Foxes team-mate Robert Huth.

Vardy is preparing for another assault on the Premier League after signing a new one-year deal at the King Power Stadium this summer following the club’s promotion. But Huth does not believe Vardy – now 37 – will spearhead new manager Steve Cooper’s attack every game when the new season begins.

A new striker is likely to be high on Cooper’s transfer wish list after taking charge of the club this week ahead of the season, with Vardy and Patson Daka the only senior forwards currently at the club.

“I think it might be a fair statement (that Vardy won’t be expected to start every game),” Huth said. “But at the moment, we only have Vardy and one other striker.

“We are also looking for other strikers. So depending on who we get in, that could have a big impact.”

“However, if we need a goal with 10 or 15 minutes to go, I wouldn’t want a better player to come in because he’s an impact player, that’s for sure,” he added, speaking to Gambling.com.
