Topless thieves carry out a series of robberies and “random” attacks on the street

A police investigation is underway after a series of street robberies and assaults in Bury.

Police said a spate of incidents happened between 6pm and 8.30pm last Friday (June 7). Victims were “targeted at random” in the spate of robberies and street attacks.

The incidents were reported on Sawyer Street, Woodhill Road and Kirklees Trail. In an appeal posted on GMP Bury South Facebook yesterday, police said the suspects were believed to be a group of around five to seven men.

They were described as white and of mixed race, with some wearing gloves and mittens. Police said some of the suspects were not wearing any tops.

Officers investigating the robberies and assaults now want to speak to any witnesses or anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage of the area. Police said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage to contact DC Dave Potter on 0161 8568122 or [email protected].

“You are also encouraged to get in touch if you have any information relating to these incidents which could assist the police investigation. You can also share information anonymously with CrimeStoppers on or 0800 555 111.

“We understand this may cause concern for local residents, but we believe this is an isolated incident and we are working hard to identify all those responsible.”
