Police update on man who died in Bristol city centre

Officers investigating the death of a man in Bristol city center on Friday have passed details to the Avon Coroner and say the death is not suspicious. Police were called to support paramedics who battled in vain to save the man’s life near Bristol Crown Court in Small Street in the early hours of Friday, June 21.

The man was found collapsed and seriously ill at around 5.30am and emergency services were called. Paramedics called police at 5.40am after finding the man unresponsive and he sadly died at the scene.




Bristol Live reported on Friday morning that police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, which at the time was “unexplained”. A police cordon was put in place across Little Street on Friday morning and police appealed for any information about the man and how he got there.

Now police have said that their initial inquiries have concluded that the man’s death is not suspicious and police will now prepare a file for the Avon Coroner to conduct an inquest instead of continuing with a criminal investigation.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said police were now trying to trace the man’s family, who are abroad. “The death of a man in Bristol this morning, Friday 21 June, is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” the spokesman confirmed.

“The man was found seriously ill in Bell Lane, off Small Street, in the early hours. Officers were called to support paramedics who treated him at around 5.40am but sadly he died at the scene. Police are now trying to track down the man. family, who are abroad, to inform them and arrange official identification,” she added.
